The first thing that will happen is that you will get a email sent to your email in box that should look something like this:-
Inmate Mark, Johnson this is a system generated message
Now I will take you though the five step guide. After you send and receive your first few messages it will become second nature.
1:- Every code that is issued by Corrlinks is unique and it is imperative that you only use the code that you have been given by the system or the process will not work. When you receive your first email it will look something like this “RYUTHJG” this is the code that you will have to use to be able to sign up an inmate so that they can start to receive emails from you. You will have to do this process using the same email address that the invitation was sent to.
2:- This next bit is easy, all you have to do is make a note of the code that you were issued or you could simply copy and paster the code using your mouse of keyboard short cuts. Now click here to go to corrlinks and then follow the rest of the steps (part 3 below)
Inmate:- Mark, Johnson
This is a system generated message informing you that the above-named person is a federal prisoner who seeks to add you to his/her contact list for exchanging electronic messages. There is no message from the prisoner at this time.
Now when you receive this message you can either accept of reject and block this request. If you choose to block the inmates name then you will no longer receive any e-mails from that inmate.
Now to register with corrlinks you have to input your email and the code that was emailed to you
Email Address: email@example.com
Identification number RYUTHJG
This identification code will expire in 10 days.
As soon as you approve the message that was sent to you this automatically means that you have given consent to the Bureau of Prisons staff to monitor every email that is sent from you to the inmate and visa versa.
Once you registered with corrlinks and you are happy to receive email messages from the prisoner then the inmate will be informed electronically
If you need any more information on about the monitoring process then you can goto bop.gov and check out there FAQ page.
3:- When you visit the corrlinks website click on the big orange button to sing up as a new user, the rest of the sign up process is very easy to follow. All you need to have is the email address that the original inmate emailed the invitation to and a unique password that you will not forget. Please ensure that when choosing a password that it has at least one upper and lower-case letter and one number for example “Billy423” or “treVor652.
4:- All you have to do now is wait between 20-40 mins for your request to be processed and approved. This part is very important; you have to go to your account manager within corrlinks to set up the inmate notification. All this is is a setting that will notify you every time you have been sent a message from an inmate.
When you are inside of your account go to “manage my inmate list” then put an X in the email alert box and that’s it. Now the system is set-up to notify you every time you get mail.
This is an example of what the manage my inmate list screen should look like
5:- When you get an email from a prison inmate it will appear in your in box like thisInfo : you have a new corrlink message
When you receive this emails you can go to corrlinks and sign in and respond to the message. It will take anything up to 1hr to send and receive messages this is because the messages have to go though the monitoring system and that can take some time.
